If you have a balance or dizziness problem, contact the NY videonystagmography specialists at Audio Help Hearing Centers for a complete and comprehensive evaluation. Videonystagmography (VNG) is a diagnostic test that measures involuntary eye movements known as nystagmus. By assessing these eye movements, your audiologist will have a window on the potential causes of your dizziness, imbalance or vertigo.
VNG testing is performed in a quiet room while you sit in a comfortable chair. Your audiologist will review the instructions for the test while they prepare you and the equipment. A pair of goggles with sophisticated cameras will be placed over your eyes. You will be able to see through the goggles for some portions of the test, and your audiologist might close the cover on the goggles for other components.
Your audiologist will guide you through the battery of tests that make up the VNG. You will be instructed to watch lights on a screen and will be placed in various head and body positions. For the final portion of the test, your audiologist will use a device to gently blow air into your ears. All of these tests are completed while monitoring the responses of your eyes.
