Audio Help Hearing Centers performs electrocochelography tests in our NY offices. Electrocochelography (ECochG) testing is a sophisticated measure of inner ear function. ECochG is a safe and painless procedure that uses small electrodes and earphones to measure the status of the inner ear. Patients are often referred for ECochG testing if it is suspected they might have Meniere’s Disease. Meniere’s is believed to occur as a result of excess fluid in the inner ear. This may result in fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus (buzzing in the ear) and episodic vertigo.
When you arrive at one of our NY offices for your electrocochleography, your audiologist will seat you in a comfortable chair and clean specific areas on your forehead and ears. The areas cleaned will be the locations where small electrodes will be placed. You will also have soft earphones placed in each ear. Once you are prepared and the equipment is ready, you audiologist will ask you to close your eyes and relax. You will hear a series of clicking sounds, but there is no need for you to respond. The computer system will record the neural responses as they happen.
The total test time is approximately ½ hour.
